Breakout: Another Survey?!: Making Your Next Survey Count

Starts @ 11:45 am PT  |  12:45 pm MT  |  1:45 pm CT  |  2:45 pm ET

Surveys are a fundamental tool in a library’s research and evaluation toolbox, yet many library surveys fall short of their potential for gathering useful, trustworthy information. In this session, participants will learn best practices in survey development and design. During the pre-recorded lesson, we will explore the purpose of survey research, its strengths and limitations for library needs, guidelines for designing effective surveys, and best practices for pre-testing surveys. Then, participants will complete a survey challenge during which they will review and improve a library survey. Participants will also have the option of reviewing and improving a survey from their own library and submitting it for instructor feedback. During the live session, participants will discuss their take-aways from reviewing and improving surveys and have the opportunity to ask questions about the pre-recorded lesson. Attendees will also work in pairs to practice pre-testing a library survey.
