Dinner & Keynote: What Research Wants

Lee Rainie, Director of Internet, Science, and Technology Research at the Pew Research Center, will describe the latest research of the center into people’s library usage, their book reading habits, and their technology adoption, and how this research can be used in narratives about the structure and function of future libraries. He will also describe the way librarians can use Pew Research’s material and do their own research into their patrons and non-patrons to help them serve their communities and plan for the future. The title of his talk comes from the book by Kevin Kelly, “What Technology Wants,” which describes the ways in which technology has its own needs and imperatives. So too with research.
